Our History

Prior Automotive Products was founded by Fred Prior, one of the pioneers of wheels
and parts distribution for heavy duty trucks in the southwest during the 1920s.

In the early 1950s, Prior’s rebuilding division was launched and soon grew to become an industry leader in supplying remanufactured air compressors, valves, vacuum assist power brakes and other products to the independent heavy-duty truck parts and automotive distributor.

During the 1960s and 1970s, when power brakes became standard equipment on most vehicles, Prior Automotive became one of the first production rebuilders of brake boosters for the independent automotive parts distributors.

Family-owned since 2002

In 2002 Glenn Reynolds, then acting President, acquired Prior Automotive Products. Under his leadership and guidance the Prior brand has expanded significantly. In 2010, with the acquisition of APSCO, a power steering remanufacturer, in addition to brakes Prior now offers a complete line of steering products, which includes rack and pinion, power steering pumps, and gear boxes for passenger vehicles.
